    This must be how the camouflage for the Boeing production facilities in Seattle was created. An entire little (fake) city built on top of the factory area - trees, landscaping, roads, houses, and all. Too bad they don't have the same decoration now, it would make a nice relaxing spot for the workers to take a break during the day.

    Nicholas Emil Herman Adolph Ahlers, according to The Democratic banner., December 29, 1914, Image 6 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn88078751/1914-12-29/ed-... which uses this photo. Ahlers was a naturalized Englishman who was tried for high treason. The charge was that he kept Germany posted on military and diplomatic activities at the opening of WWI. From NYT of December 10, 1914 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=FA0F15FF3F5C13738... "Nicholas Ahlers, former German Consul in Sunderland, was today convicted by the Durham Assizes of high treason and sentenced to death. " But a few days later, on appeal, the sentence was annulled. Helping German citizens return home (which was actually consistent with a government order) was not necessarily hostile to British interests.
