Born into New York society, Constance Whitney Warren (1888-1948) became a sculptor specializing in Western American subjects. Count Guy De Lasteyrie was a descendant of the Marquis de Lafayette. Their engagement was announced in October, 1912. Here's the New York Times account of their wedding, in December, 1912. In 1925, one of Warren's best-known works, a life-sized equestrian sculpture called The Texas Cowboy, was installed on the grounds of the state capitol building in Austin. After a decade or so of success as an artist, during which time she completed about 100 works, Constance Warren suffered a mental breakdown and was committed to an institution, where she remained for the final 18 years of her life. I've been unable to find out if the marriage of Constance Warren and the Comte produced children, or what became of Guy De Lasteyrie.
