HMS Empress of India (1891) was sunk by the Royal Navy as a target ship in November 1913.

After seeing it, I can see why they might have sunk their own ship. The the proudest of achievements from a naval architecture perspective.

completed in 1893, she was typical of the rapid evolution of battleships during this time, all of which were made obsolete when Dreadnought came along in 1906. She has an unusual side by side funnel arrangement. Her wreck is diveable by advanced divers.

Thanks swanq. I believe you are correct. The British National Gallery of Art has over 400 portraits of her and several taken in 1860's show her with a similar hairstyle. We'll update the catalog record.
