  Date inscribed on the negative (in reverse) appears to be from 1913, which would make this a few months after Woodrow Wilson assumed the Presidency on March 4, 1913. (View large.) William Gibbs McAdoo, Wilson's Secretary of the Treasury, was widowed in 1912. In 1913 he began courting Eleanor, Wilson's youngest daughter, who accepted his proposal, even though at 50 he was 27 years older than she. Woodrow Wilson was not thrilled by the idea, but did not prevent the marriage. McAdoo and Eleanor were divorced in 1934.
