Another great photo. I've always wondered if the land and area where the new Eldon Square was built on was poor quality? Derelic housing, slums etc? I ask because how they poured concrete over the land was very dramatic! The original Eldon Square which was left alone is a lovely little haven and it would've been a shame if similar structures and land was decimated in the name of shopping..

Many thanks for your comments. I have to admit that this is one of my favourite aerial images - the view seems very familiar but when you look closely you can see so many changes.

Wow, totally unrecognisable compared to how it looks today.

When the new shopping centre was built they erased a lot of history. Sure there were run down parts but to remove parts of the square was unforgiveable. And not a single long leatther coat in sight!

Considering the general uniformity of the public and military, the three ladies off to the left on the grass stand out...

It's a disgrace what they did to those buildings.

Bedford tractor unit, forget the serial mark; Dinky toys used the same thing for their articulated car transporter model. Wonderful series of the land of bikkies, thanks you so much
