    Due to the fitted heavy Oberursel U.III rated at 160 hp the metal construction around the engine was strengthened. To get enough air for the cooling of this rotary engine slots were made in the metal, making it the decisive distinction for the Pfalz E.IV. All of the E.IV monoplanes were fitted with 2 MG, with the exception of the prototype (seen here) which was fitted with one MG.
