    Are you certain about the date 1911? After the 1901-1904 British National Antarctic Expedition, Discovery was sold to Hudson's Bay Company, which used her as a cargo vessel until 1916. The image does appear to be Discovery, but I wonder about that date.

    It was definitely an accident of some kind, but I am not sure if the plane over-shot its landing or if it was parked and gradually fell into the ice as it melted.
