    This is a Morane-Saulnier H and is photographed in England! The Pfalz E.I and E.II were licensed-built copies of this plane. This one, however, is a Morane! It appears to have race markings (No. 8) under the wings and so would be a prewar photo. The chap in the cockpit isn't German, he is wearing British attire! The hangars are also British style of construction.

    Correct. This Type H was owned by R.H. Carr before the war and he raced it in the London-Paris-London competition on 11 July 1914 numbered 8. It was impressed by the RFC (bought for 750 Pounds) after the outbreak of the war receiving serial 629. Most probably it was a licence built Morane by Grahame-White Company. The "chap" is Lt James Valentine and the photo was taken at Farnborough. Wasted money since the Aircraft was rejected for RFC service.... Source: J.M. Bruce Stig
