I would question the caption on this one ... as you can see from the notes I've made the shot has been taken from the general direction of Dawes Point over the Rocks. It's the only way you could have St Philip's and the GPO where they are.

In fact, does this shot form a panorama with the next picture? "Panorama over the Rocks...."

I see the ground has been covered before! Thanks for pointing it out Beachcomber! Now for the real mystery - who changed the ad?

beachcomber australia said:
John Cowper I am not sure whether the ad was changed on the wall or on the negative. The letters look somehow in the wrong plane. Maybe for a postcard view of Sydney? Please State Records NSW, a larger version? !

Designed by Walter Liberty Vernon in 1910 (Federation Free Style), and completed in 1912. From the (hideous) telegraph poles and lack of motor vehicles, the photo must be about 1912.

pellethepoet Funny Ha ha! Laughing Out Loud. [pretentious comment alert] Looking at the image again, the photographer has used the telegraph poles, wires and wire shadows extremely artfully to frame the building and enhance the composition and perspective. I bet it was John Degotardi Jnr. [pretentious comment over]
