USS Lexington (CV-16)

The ship at the top is the Buckley class destroyer escort USS George DE-697. At the bottom of the photo is the Butler class destroyer escort USS Gilligan DE-508. USS George was decommissioned in 1958 and USS Gilligan followed in 1959. USS Lexington was recommissioned in 1955 after conversion when the angled deck was added. Based on the history of these ships I am guessing this photo was taken between 1955 and 1957 off the west coast of the USA.

You identify 10 pilots but I count 11 pilots in the photo. Who is the eleventh?

Pfc. Elmer McDaniel, USMC, decorated back of his work jumper with what he called a "Jawja" peach. On board the USS Lexington (CV-16)., ca. 11/29/1943
