  The little boy looks animated and cheerful - quite unusual in photographs of this era. Is that a cricket ball he's holding? Maybe he went on to become a world-class cricketer...

  Old children's portrait trick: a busy little guy will at least keep his hands still if you give him a ball to hold.

  I think there is something unusual about the face of the child in this image. Going through to the persistent URL and zooming in on the face, the face then appears to be covered in fine hairs which would be unusual for a child of this age - around 2 years old. Otherwise, maybe it is fine scratching on the image, but it seems to have only affected the face portion. Maybe it is due to the age of the plate.

  Esa mano izquierda, tan grande, sería para sujetar al bebé, con esa carita de mayor, por detrás de la hamaca. Quizá para dar idea de que es más mayor, o para que salga mejor en la foto.
