What a waste of a generation. It just shows what happens when we rely too much on political leaders. The same problems exist today, greed and selfish interests still prevail, although there is less desire for empire building. The difference is that people are more aware of what is going on thanks to the media and technology and wars do not need men. Anyhow I cannot imagine millions going over the top to be slaughtered just because a general gives an order from his comfortable HQ well behind the lines.

The 1/10th and 2/10th Bns of The King's Liverpool Regiment were the famous "Liverpool Scottish" in the Territorial Force (later Territorial Army). Research shows that this unit still exists as "No 2 (Liverpool Scottish) Platoon, A Company, The King's and Cheshire Regiment" and continues to wear the same uniform and insignia as that worn by Pte Thwaite Williamson. The men are all volunteers, as was Pte Williamson, and no doubt some have served in either Iraq or Afghanistan recently. Well done.
