Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Architecture, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

This is actually, the Old Irish Parliament Buildings which were sold to the progenitor of the Bank of Ireland. I think the title should be changed to reflect the correct name. The parliament was dissolved by act of Union at the start of the 19th century. It is still one of the Georgian set-pieces in the capital.

I wouldnt change the name considering by the time this print was made the building was owned by Band of Ireland.. perhaps add in "former Parliament House" - but the "Correct" name is definitely Bank of Ireland. I could be wrong but... if it is printed on the image itself then it must have been Bank of Ireland at the time..

Dunwho - you clearly do not subscribe to the view in geographical circles that to name something is to own it! :) Here's a question for you - if it was an image of the Parthenon from the 18th century would you describe it as a stable - as that is what it was used for at the time?

There's vast numbers of boaters being worn. Was that the style of the day or is there some boater related event on (Provost's garden party or something)?

An electric tram and a horse-drawn tram should help with the dating. I believe electrification started in 1896 and was complete by 1901. But when did the last horse trams stop?

I spy at least two top hats. One on a gent just passing the Trinity front gate, and another on a man about to leave frame on left.

There's a bicycle in the modern (post 1890) style on the left in front of the Bank of Ireland. It's a bit blurred but it has two wheels the same size, a trapezoid frame and a chain driven rear wheel.

Dublin Trams: This was completed in four years and when the last horse tram ran on the Bath Avenue line in January 1901, the Dublin area had about 66 electric route miles, of which nearly 50 were owned by the DUTC.

On first glance I thought it was Denis O'Brien and Seanie Fitz in the back of the carriage.

You're not alone - thought it was Denis O'Brien! First thing I did was zoom in to check...

I'm not really a bus expert, but there are at least 4 types of Dublin Bus double decker in this shot, all painted that two tone green that was introduced with the Bombardiers. Sorry if I get their official names wrong, but here goes.... One of the late 70's Vanhool buses in foreground. These all used to be that insipid orange colour. Just passing the Bank of Ireland is an older, late 60's Leyland bus, which is blocking a noisy Bombardier. To the right of that is a then brand new Leyland Olympian "RH", (just looked that one up). Is it a 15A? And beyond that is another Vanhool.

I thought it was O'Brien too until it occured to me how unlikely it would be that he would be sitting on a cart with Seanie and the pair of them wearing red ties. Even in the '90s that pair were never communists.
