Silva Tipple New married her professor, Kirsop Lake (1872-1946), an English-born Anglican priest who emigrated to the US during WWI to teach early Christian literature and ecclesiastical history at Harvard. She was his second wife; they had a son together. The Lakes founded and edited a series of monographs about the history of New Testament text. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirsopp_Lake

They married in 1931. Josephine was Theodore's second wife; his first died in 1927. Theodore died on vacation in New Hampshire. Their son Theodore Shear Jr. is also an archaeologist, a professor at Princeton.

Carleton L. Brownson, professor of Greek, formerly of the American School of Classics at Athens, and later instructor in Latin at Yale. He seems to have done a number of translations of Greek texts.

pennylrichardsca: I'll join mcsheeryp in thanking you for the identifying information. In checking Prints & Photographs Division collections that are not online, I found a matching image identifying him in a handwritten caption as "Carleton L. Brownson, Dean, the College of the City of New [York]" (last word cut off--must have been on a larger mount at one time) and with a stamped credit to "Alman & Co, 590 Fifth Ave., N.Y." We'll add information to the description for the Bain negative when we next update the record.
