I used to live in the cottage, the end building of the terrace facing towards the camera, in the lower right side of the screen

I believe "The Cottage" predated the Colliery. The were many "drift" mines just to the south. A stone quarry obliterated many of these, just off Benwell Lane.

These photos were given to me by my mother in-law, and she says that according to her family records, Rev. William Cook was in Matawatchan in 1872. If anyone has any more information, it would be greatly appreciated.
