The rocky outcrop near the summit of Cave Hill is known as Napoleon's Nose.

My guess is that this is looking from the Antrim Road.

Swordscookie It surely is Sean. The promontory is locally known as 'Napoleon's Nose' for obvious reasons. The castle is as lovely now as it was then.

There's no streetview from a similar angle, but there is a photosphere nearby (though wongly placed on the map.

The DIA calls it a "New Scottish Baronial house on slope of Cave Hill by John Lanyon, for Marquess of Donegall. Faced with Cookstown stone with white Scottish stone dressings. Note in B of I files says castle was completed 1870; also lodge." I'm fascinated by the entry in 1922 where "H[enry] S[eaver] said to have 'waved his Prospero's wand' over Belfast Castle."...

It seems to be the same ship, so if Clydesite is correct, and they're claiming to have got hold of the original records, then this must be 1914 sometime.

There's four spars on each mast. Close enough, I reckon - the top one's probably some wee yoke that folds up or something, or they cut it down to four because of the cloth rationing. We've got an antipodean flag on it and everything else identifiable is the same. Edit: In fact, there's five spars on the forward mast.

I've been in several docks over the years and have never seen timber stacked so neatly and with that roof effect to shed water in the event of rain. The cleanest and tidiest docks I have ever seen! Well done Belfast:-)

A "Bangor Castle" paddlesteamer has turned up in Belfast a couple of times already:

In the 1895 Belfast and Province of Ulster directory, Robinson, Hill & Co are ship smiths at Dufferin Road and 10 Garmoyle Street. streetdirectories.proni.gov.uk/media/ziqr6gQOaZANJu0xstjp...

I am not sure whether this is Dufferin Road or Garmoyle street. They run either side of a dock, but I can not work out where this is as we are looking at Cave Hill, which is north of the docks, and the orientation of the dock is SW to NE.
