Fore runner of TWA - Pane became C47 and affectionately called the Goney Bird. Look up Goney birds in the Pacific if you not understand.

As pre-existing tags already indicate, this is DST-A-207 c/n 1960, which was impressed into the USAAF on June 8, 1942 as C-48B 42-56098. It returned to the civil registry as NC18102 (United Air Lines 'Iowa' January 19, 1944), later N912F. Converted to DC-3A, later N777X, various owners/operators.

This is quite clearly NC18103 which was delivered to United in July 1937 as a DST. I got nothing on that aircraft until it went to USAAF in 1942. I believe United called themselves the Mainliner at the time which would fit what we see on the fuselage. From where comes TWA and for that matter Consolidated? Stig

It looks like the caption on the bottom says C-49B, not C-48B.

C-49 had Wright R-1820 engines and they looked like those in the photo
