A photo of Jimmy Doolittle with the Harmon Trophy he was awarded in 1930 for his pioneering first "blind flight" on September 24, 1929 at Mitchel Field, Long Island. The flight demonstrated instrument flight which would enable aircraft to safely fly at night and through poor weather. Doolittle considered his work with the Guggenheim Full Flight Laboratory on instrument flight to be his most important contribution to aviation. Walter Hines Page, American diplomat and journalist, was in the news in March, 1913 (when the Bain Agency circulated this photograph), having just been appointed U. S. Ambassador to Britain by the newly-inaugurated President Woodrow Wilson. Walter Hines Page "was born in 1855 in North Carolina and died in 1918. After being educated at Johns Hopkins University he became a partner in the publishing firm of Doubleday Page and Company. From 1890 to 1895 he edited The Forum and edited other publications. In 1913 he was appointed by President Wilson American ambassador in London where he worked to promote Anglo-American unity. He retired due to ill health in 1918."
