seeing the backdrops is really interesting and very useful for teaching..particuarly as there are other photos closer up on the figures showing the backdrop effect. e.g. www.flickr.com/photos/australian-war-memorial/2963393284/...

Glad you found this interesting. I was pretty excited when I saw this image because usually each of these studio shots has only one backdrop visible. It gave me a better understanding on the set-up that the Darge Photographic Company had at the camp.

Thanks AWMC. If you have been looking athe Drage Photo Company are you able to say what the two little bits of "apparatus" are? I've put a question on them as a note - one on the floor looks like a reference number and one on the bench - empty packet ?.

I wonder what they fed it, since koalas live off of eucalyptus leaves, which probably wouldn't be available in a war zone.

I imagine that this photo was taken in Australia. Koalas are high maintenance animals if kept in captivity in Australia, let alone overseas!

You can see over on the right there that this photo was taken in Broadmeadows, Melbourne, Australia.

A few koalas did make it overseas as mascots. I have often wondered about their food, but eucalyptus tres do exist outside Australia so perhaps they were of the right type. if they took eucalyptus leaves with them on the ship transporting them, they must have been pretty dry by the time they got over there.
