Interesting enough the gun appears to be a German made Luger. Probably not a gun used by the local police back then! I also find it interesting to see some sort of workbench tool behind the window on the left, why is that located in a court building? Could this be the technical evidence department or something? The Luger is being checked in as evidence to be examined indoors?

In the NIAH as Tarbert Heritage Centre. Originally from 1831. The Bridewell ceased to operate as a jail in 1874 but continued in use as a Courthouse for a further 75 years. A local family were the last residential caretakers of the Bridewell and lived there up to the 1950’s. For the next 30 years the building being unoccupied, steadily deteriorated and by the mid 1980’s had become derelict. In 1987 the Bridewell Project Group was formed with a view to retaining, restoring and developing this fine building. In 1993 the Bridewell opened as a Visitor Centre.

In its entry on the Longford Arms Hotel to the right of the court house, the NIAH says: A late nineteenth-century photograph from the Lawrence Collection (1895) shows that it had a round-headed doorway with cut stone block-and-start surround at this time

The shop beyond the court house looks like a blurred Kelly. Peter Kelly Hardware is in the 1911 but not the 1901 census.
