    John Louis Clarke (check spelling in title) (aka Cutapuis, 1881-1970) was a Blackfoot carver from Montana, deaf from a case of scarlet fever in childhood (The same fever killed five of his brothers). He was educated at the North Dakota School for the Deaf in Devil's Lake, the Montana School for the Deaf in Boulder, and the St. John's School for the Deaf in Milwaukee. www.deafpeople.com/history/history_info/clarke.html

    I'm wrong again; "Clark" is correct in your title. Here's the story of the Clark/Clarke spelling: "I found out that prior to the 1920's the Clarke family spelled their name 'Clark'. Helen Clarke (John's Aunt) discovered the Scottish heritage and officially changed the spelling to 'Clarke'.
