  A trawl through the Medal Cards Index turns up the following for “A Birch” who served with the Cheshire Regiment; Birch Albert L.Cpl – ActingCpl. 14638 KiA 22-09-15 Son of Mrs Julia Birch, 3 Chatham Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire. Buried at Brown’s Road Military Cemetery, Festubert. Birch Alfred Pte. 967 later 200058 Dismissed[?] 10-02-19 Birch Alfred Pte. 3448 later 20041 later Royal Defence Corps 18931 of 8 Mewling Street, Birkenhead. Birch Alfred J Pte. 243508 Birch Arthur Pte. 17749 later Labour Corps 405688 There is also a card for an A Birch who was a 2nd Lieut and a CWGC entry for a Sgt A Birch whose name was actually Burch.

  His father, Bion Whitehouse, was a Keene N.H. photographer, and we are scanning and uploading hundreds of his photos to the Commons on Flickr. I wasn't aware that Darwin was a photographer too...
