    Hi Greg, the barge in this photograph was the Lord Mayors barge. "The protection of the river was demonstrated each year on Barge Day when the Mayor, in his capacity as President of the Court of Admiralty, inspected riverside staithes etc..This system survived until 1974 when the office of Alderman was abolished."     First thing that jumps out are the floating docks loading the barges to ferry kegs down to the docks for export, all gone now. It looks as if the little tramway to bring kegs to the landing slips were already replaced by lorries by this date.
