Father and son, 1916

    Wish we had a photo like that - most of our stuff was lost in a flood on the family farm in 1993....

    In 1916 we had Alex, David and Don enlist of which 2 were wounded seriously by 1917 and one was discharged due to those wounds.
    In 1925 Don enlisted in the RAN and in 1939 was posted to HMAS Sydney and was with her when she was sunk in 1941 along with another relation who was the seaplane pilot (RAAF).
    Ray and Ian both enlisted in the RAAF in 1940, Ray went to HMAS Sydney in 1941 and Ian went to Canada as part of the EATS.
    Ian was Alex's Only son and he was killed in Jan 1945 flying lancasters with 617 RAF Sqd midway thorugh his second tour.

    all we have at this time are memories and tales as all the photos etc were destroyed.

    Alex and David joined the 39 Batt 1916 together while Don served in a Machine Gun Batt in 1918 after enlisting in 1917.

    I believe that is my mother on the right - Kathleen Miller (nee Bahen) from Melbourne. After returning from the Manila, she went on to Japan to help & met my father who was in the US Air Force. They married had 6 children & moved around the world with the Air Force. Settled back in Melbourne 50 years ago & she passed away last year at 96. Amazing women.
