    On a postcard I own, with this scene as the front picture, someone has written with a pencil that it's Max Van Rysselberghe walking on the sea ice. However, I cannot confirm it's him, and as far as I know (from literature) he was not involved in any excursions. However, it's unlikely he would never have left 'Belgica' while she was stuck in the Bellingshausen Sea...

    that's EXACTLY what my Standard Poodle comes in looking like after a romp in the snow~ I wonder what a Penguin's body temperature is...Poodles are +10 to humans and cause this snow-ball affect from their heat...weird~

    The icebergs shown on this photograph are probably the same as the ones shown on an illustration in the book published by De Gerlache ('Quinze Mois dans l'Antartique'). De Gerlache dates the illustration as March 1899, thus this photo is likely to have been taken at that moment, too.
