Low sun angle shot over darkened ocean. A3D-2/A-3B Skywarrior Bu No 138925 VAH-10 ‘Vikings’. Modex 205 on nose and upper starboard wing. Large squadron sword emblem on fuselage side Air wing code NK on tail and upper starboard wing. Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) Later modifications; Defensive Electronic Countermeasures (DECM) ‘dove’ tail, flattened nose, different cockpit framing. But still with forward under fuselage periscope fairing. VAH-10 using Modex codes in the 200 range was with CVG-14 code NK on just two occasions: This was when embarked on CVA-64 USS CONSTELLATION, firstly during Nov. 1962 for local operations in the East Pacific, secondly for a West Pacific voyage between Feb.21 & Sept 10, 1963. www.gonavy.jp/CVG-CVG14f.html (information courtesy of 'GO!NAVY' website by Takafumi Hiroe of Japan) So A-3B 138925 may, during those dates, have been one of the aircraft of VAH-10. Some info on Skywarrior 138925; Accepted by US Navy March 1957 Converted to KA-3B by NARF Alameda in April 1969. 'Crash landed' at Elemendorf AFB after mid-air collision with ERA-3B. Nov 1987.
