Partial quote refering to KA-3B 138973 in text of comments for this webpage: www.aero-web.org/specs/douglas/ka-3b.htm "I was in VAH13 on Whidbey from 1962-64. I was crew chief (Plane captain ) on Bu No 138973 (608)- Kitty Hawk. I'm trying to track down what happened to that bird. so far I know that it was converted to a KA3B tanker and sent to VAH10 as (610). Then retired in about 1970 to SARDIP. ..." Still there May 1975 (Stricken Aircraft Reclamation and Disposal Program) Reference may be found here recording KA-3B 138973 as Modex 101 of VAH-10 Detachment 64 aboard CVA-64 USS CONSTELLATION: www.gonavy.jp/CVW14-NK1968.html This was some time during the period between May 29, 1968 & Jan.31, 1969 with CVW-14 (code NK) for a Vietnam War deployment. Well spotted big red! got my cross eye sorted and took a real close look see.... perhaps this is 1957..... the 'All Three Dead' [A3D] may be from VAH-1 'Smokin Tigers' and the Fury might be an FJ-3M of VF-84 'Vagabonds' A CVA-59 USS Forrestal deployment record: www.gonavy.jp/CV-CV59f.html navysite.de/cvn/cv59deploy.htm Period VAH-1 A3D pics and info: www.boeing.com/companyoffices/gallery/a3d.htm en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:A3D_crash_on_USS_Forrestal_(CVA-59)_1957.jpg www.flickr.com/photos/my_public_domain_photos/4494894611/ www.joebaugher.com/usattack/newa3_7.html here's a pic of a VF-84 FJ-3M aboard CVA-59 USS Forrestal in 1957: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FJ-3M_CVA-59_NAN9-57.jpg also the Lockheed CL-1200/1600 Lancer project may have been a far far better plane than the F-104 ..... if it had been allowed to be built and tested en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_CL-1200
