This pic was evidently taken at the civic reception for the Australian Commonwealth Band, which was held at Sydney Town Hall on 22nd February, 1927. The band had returned from an overseas tour earlier that day. The tall chap to the right of the Drum Major might be Captain M.E.H. Penfold, who at various points in the mid 1920s was the NSW Governor's private secretary and ADC (he would have been representing the Governor)...the chap next right might be Paddy Stokes, former Lord Mayor (1925) and a NSW Labor Party MLA... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/239927455 - Labor Daily, 23rd February, 1927 (pic) trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/239927443 - Labor Daily item re trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/239931478 - Labor Daily, 28th February, 1928...pic here of Bond's Hosiery Band with the Australian Commonwealth Band... trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16356739 - SMH, 23rd February, 1927 (pic) trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16356755 - SMH item re Pic taken earlier that day when the band arrived in Sydney on the SS Marama www.flickr.com/photos/anmm_thecommons/8159583686/
