The North American AJ Savage was not a *night fighter, but a (Cold War-era) carrier-based attack bomber designed to deliver an atomic weapon. Besides the pair of prop-driven engines it had a jet engine that allowed it to take-off from an aircraft carrier. My dad, a VC-8 AJ-1 Savage plane Captain, was lost in the crash of his in 1955. The aircraft was not reliable, having been rushed into production before resolving numerous problems. * Perhaps this photo is being mistaken for a Douglas F3D Skyknight or even a P-61 Black Widow. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_AJ_Savage
