The sandstone building on the right hand side was the Gardener's Lodge of the University of Sydney. It now sits in Victoria Park, Chippendale. This park is adjacent to the University.
The Gardener's Lodge was built in 1885. The architect was Edmund Blacket, who also designed the main building of the University.
The Gardener's Lodge was classified by the National Trust in 1976. Externally it is in very good condition, however internally it is quite dilapadated.
Blacket's mark is all over Sydney of the 1800's, much surviving today.

I am pretty sure this photo wasnt taken in Broadway. The university building does not face that way. The current driveway is curved. This driveway looks like it runs off City Road.

Yes, this photo is taken from City Road. Note the tram tracks in the foreground, the gravel ballast indicating that the trams had their own "right-of-way", free of obstruction from other road vehicles. The boards at lower right cover the mechanism for the tram "crossover".

1kevin2 That's interesting about the tram tracks. Do you know when this line was electrified? Wires and poles are not evident here, so it must have been still a steam tramway.
