I saw a documentary on Dan Breen over the weekend on TV4. Breen was involved in this ambush and was badly wounded. His views on killing were stark. see youtu.be/ty_U6U8iiTg

The ambush was at Ashtown crossroads near the Halway House (then Kellys), but the whole area has been rebuilt. Even the crossroads is a big roundabout now.

the Ambush was 19th December 1919. I would think this photo is dated very soon after that.

The Lord Lieutenant in 1914 was Edmond de la Poer. I don't think it is the impressively bearded man who has a more mayoral-looking chain of office.

The mayor in 1914 was Richard Power, the name Power is derived from Poer, keep it in the family.

He was a British diplomat and lived from 1858 to 1944. We will add a bit more information when we update the record.
