Interesting symbolic aspects of humour here....... Findlater - I wonder if that was that a detective agency.

That telephone number was a big hit at the time being so easy to remember. They were known as "The Sixes" and indeed they were a good company to call. Great to see the old cars on display, the Ford Zodiac just out of shot and I can't remember the model of the Vauxhall your driver is leaning on

Swordscookie And they were still called The Sixes or All the Sixes long after the 7 got added at the start of the number in the 1970s, Sean, I think.

In the background you can see the big MH for the Mater Hospital Pools which is very appropriate given the court case at the moment on the Govt. cutting off funding to the private lotteries wiped out by the National Lottery. There was a lot of work going on at the bank on Parnell St./Cavendish Row which has featured in some great discussions on here.

If the car is still around, it might be worth AU$ 370,000 - 460,000. See - www.bonhams.com/auctions/27000/lot/282/

    MY Mum's old Vauxhall
  • State Library of Queensland said:
spelio Thanks Bill. Due to your help I found out that this car was a Vauxhall H-Type 10/4 [H - Ten-Four] a British-built small family car produced by Vauxhall between 1937 and 1947, which I will add that information to the catalogue.

This location is not Amberley... as the mountains in the picture are Mount Edwards and Little Mount Edwards near Aratula, Kalbar area.
  • State Library of Queensland said:
Gregory Cope Thank you for your comments on this photographs, However, the description location of Amberley was provided by the photographer. Therefore further investigation is required,
  • State Library of Queensland said:
Gregory Cope After investigating our Collection Building librarian found out that the original photograph did not have any description attached to it and that you are correct about Mount Edward in the background. Thus, I will change our catalogue records to show this new information. Again, thank you for providing this information.
