Exactly 130 years ago! I find Garden Palace photos and info fascinating, particularly because it had such a short existence. If it was still around today it would be a useless eyesore. I wonder if that statue still exists somewhere?

Yes the statue is still in the Royal Botanical Gardens, near the Conservatorium Gate - No. 43 on this list - www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/welcome/royal_botanic_garden/tours_...
" 43. Huntsman and Dogs This recently restored statue by the French sculptor A. Jacquemart is ‘imitation bronze’ - an iron casting on which copper has been deposited by electrolysis. It was cast by the Val d’Osne Company c. 1879. "

More about the statue - there's another casting in Victoria, and the story of what happened after the 1882 fire - museumvictoria.com.au/about/mv-blog/?tag=alfred%20jacquemart And a version in Beverley Hills, California, via the Chateau Thierry complete with WW1 shell holes - www.publicartinla.com/sculptures/hunter.html
