On 11 May 1945, 2 Kamikaze Hits within one minute almost did in the USS Bunker Hill. 389 sailors and aircrew were killed and many more wounded, but superb damage control saved the ship. After repair in the US, she was never used in active sea service again until scrapped in 1973.
