On July 2, 1913, John Henry Mears left New York City on the Mauritania, then took a combination of steamers, yachts, and trains (and a Hydroplane!) to circle the globe before returning to New York on August 6, 1913--"the fastest man to travel Round-the-World." His record remained for thirteen years. He was also a theatrical producer and lyricist. There's a while chapter about him in Carrol V. Glines, Round-the-World Flights (Brassey's Inc 2003). He wrote about his adventure in Racing the Moon (1928). www.wingnet.org/rtw/RTW001B.HTM www.ibdb.com/person.php?id=13105
