We've lost a lot of pubs in Newcastle over the years - I'm glad I managed to sample some before they went! One pub I sadly missed was The Egypt Cottage. Kick myself for missing that one.. One thing I've noticed from this set of old Newcastle pics is that the roads were in much better condition back then. The excuse that there's more traffic now doesn't wash when you see how busy it was back then too.

Had some canny Doo's in the Rainbow Rooms (upstairs Coop) in the early 1980s.

I walked along here every day going to work from the Haymarket to Matthew Wilsons just around that bend in Newgate Street.

I've never seen it as it was - I'd simply been to music concerts there during the 1980s. It looks stunning as it was.

More great memories of that balcony!! Checking out the 'Talent' dancing round their handbags! One of our number took the 'short straw' & danced with the 'other' lass. I believe they are still married after 44years...
