Mr. & Mrs. Shepard are attending a polo match at Meadow Brook Field. The Newport Cup, effectively the polo championship of the world, was played there on June 14, 1913. America defeated England. From the New York Times of the following day: " Mr. and Mrs. Finley J. Shepard (Miss Helen Gould) also paid their first visit to Meadow Brook. After they had run the gauntlet of cameras, they sat with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gould in a grandstand box. Mrs. Shepard wore a blue poplin dress topped with a blush straw hat which had a single red rose." There were many other society types there whom were fully described in the article: query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=1&res=9D05E... I believe that the listing of society attendees will help to match up with other photographs taken on the same day.

Pixel Wrangler: Thanks for the heads up on the typo in the caption. lifeasdaddy: Thank you for the extensive description from the New York Times! It was very helpful for confirming the identity of Mrs. Shepard. We will update the description to include more complete names as well as add more information about the polo match they are attending.
