    Tugboat is the "Wm. J. Kelly of Galveston," which records show was built in 1903. This same photo appears on a postcard that was postmarked in May of 1907, so the photo had to have been taken sometime during that 4-year span. See digitalcollections.smu.edu/cdm/ref/collection/tex/id/563 . The wooden vessel at left is a rail barge that appears to contain 3 tracks. The end of a boxcar can be seen on the starboard track, at the very edge of the photo. On the center track is a Kansas City Southern RR gondola car. It is coupled to a boxcar bearing the "Port Arthur Route" logo originated by the Kansas City, Pittsburg & Gulf RR, which became KCS around 1900. The port track looks to be empty. This rail barge operation was most probably that of the Gulf & Inter-State Railway, which for about the first four decades of the 20th century ferried its trains across Galveston Bay to/from Pt. Bolivar. From there, the actual railway ran to Beaumont where connection was made with the KCS and other railroads. It is recorded that the G&I operated 2 barges in this service, the smaller of which was named "Jefferson" and could hold only 7 railcars. The barge shown here looks to be about that size, can anyone say with certainty whether it is the "Jefferson" or not?     I supect for vintage she was this ship en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warspite_(1893) which began life as HMS Hermione and was renamed HMS Warspite. But according to Wiki there were nine ships with that name. She could be the next one that was launched in 1913.

    It's also a cruiser rather than a battleship. In fact, it looks very like the refitted 1884 Warspite: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Warspite_(1884). Scrapped in 1905.
