Bowles Field, MA Springfield Mass

View looking southwest. The date may actually be 26 May 1931, when the Army Air Corps "Eastern Air Arm" arrived en masse (100 aircraft) to celebrate the grand opening of the airport. Some great information on the field's history can be found at www.airfields-freeman.com/MA/Airfields_MA_W.htm#bowles

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Social Documentary Photography & events, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

a shot from a time when real men did real work.

Hey, isn't this the inside cover of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils first album? Also, pretty sure it's the mules doing the "real work", Miss Hazel. It's an eternal curse that God put on man (and the Earth)... so farmers today still toil, no question. The fertilizer appears to be lime and the value of that Springfield wagon today, would probably buy "the family farm". On an un-related note you are very photogenic and my photo makes me look better than in real life. But if you're into "real men" without all their own teeth (i.e. hillbillies) then please reply!!!

Must be a heavy load to require 4 mules. My grandfather farmed all his life and never had more than two.
