Spad VII B9924 stands ready to lift off from the center section of the racetrack at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on April 15, 1919. With the unavailability of any German Fokker pursuit planes that day, this Spad took their place in attacking the slower Curtiss JN-4H Jennys. Contrary to the comment above, this Spad was taken from a cohort of 19 that crossed the Atlantic and arrived in the U.S. in late-1918. It was manufactured by the Mann, Egerton and Company in Norwich, England. This was the Victory Loan Flying Circus, Mid-West Flight's fifth air show in the Midwest.

Again, most interesting update, thank you! The same seems to be true for this batch, most were placed in storage after delivery. Can it be confirmed that all these 19 SPADs were engineless upon arrival in USA and equipped with the US built engine? Stig
