  This pic was evidently taken in Sydney on 22nd May, 1928, after aviator Bert Hinkler and his de facto wife Nance arrived at Mascot aerodrome. Looks like they're standing outside a hangar at Mascot aerodrome. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/16466826 - a similar pic appeared in the SMH on 23rd May, 1928. trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/246774559 - ditto the Sydney Daily Telegraph. Hinkler made his record breaking flight from England to Australia from 7th-22nd February, 1928, in a time of just under 15½ days. Nance travelled to Australia on RMS Orama and arrived at Fremantle on 3rd April, 1928, where she was met by Hinkler, who by this time had flown his Avro Avian across to Western Australia from the Eastern states. Hinkler and Nance left Perth on 10th April and flew across Australia in leisurely stages, en route visiting Tasmania...they arrived at Canberra on 20th May...Goulburn on 21st May...the next day they flew to Sydney via Bong Bong. * At the time Hinkler was not in fact married. He and Nance Jervis had a de facto relationship, and they never married. But in 1928, the details of Hinkler's marital/relationship status were largely unknown, and the various press reports referred to Nance as 'Mrs Hinkler', etc. In 1932 Hinkler married Catherine Rose in the USA, however he also continued his relationship with Nance. The details of Hinkler's personal life only emerged after his death in 1933, though even then the press generally ignored the story.
