The photo above is from a catalog page labeled "Schneider & Cie." [Schneider et Compagnie] -- Schneider was/is a Swiss company, located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The 20-cm. gun appears to be positioned to defend locks on a canal. Three Bain/LOC photos of the "Schneider Coast Defence Train" were posted to Flickr three months ago:

Thanks to both of you for your research. According to the library's authority file, B-59, Schneider took over Creusot and the company came to be known as Schneider & Cie in 1838. Thanks for identifying the other Schneider images Wystan. We'll add the company name to the records the next time we update.
