    Late 1943 or early 1944. They are D models with the dorsal fin. The first D models did not have a dorsal fin!

    I agree with John, probably mid-44 at the earliest, as training units rarely got the newest mounts and these aircraft are bare metal as well (a late-war measure to save weight and cost in painting). I would really bet on later than that, perhaps even after the war due to the large 'buzz codes' on the sides. There's a recruiting slogan painted under the tail on each of these Mustangs, sure would like to see that closer.

    With the digit 2 seen here, EP822 surely must belong to the same training unit as ER272 (previous Spitfire). Unfortunately it makes me no wiser since it left with S/S Atlantic City (8 Sep 1942), arriving into some "Middle East" port (12 Nov 1942) and being assigned to 601 Sq and later 241 Sq. Anyone who knows more? Stig

    Another "odd" photo. The digit 5 indicates some kind of training unit but none is officially known for this aircraft. Taken to Africa onboard the vessel S/S Empire Liberty (19 Sep 1942) via Takoradi, Ghana (9 Nov 1942) assigned to 601 Sq in the desert and struck off charge 5 Jan 1943. This leaves a very narrow time frame for this aircraft to be with anything else than the 601st. Looking at some other ER27x aircraft, none really fits the bill either. I would welcome further input on this one. Stig
