This image is mis-labeled. Closer inspection reveals the name "Knight" below the pilot's window and "Midwest Airmotive, Shawnee, Okla." This is Ken Knight's race #51, NX4699N.

Sorry, but this appears to be a Martin B-26 Marauder, not Douglas. Anyone confirm either?

Martin B-26C-20-MO Marauder, s/n 41-35071. This aircraft was factory modified as an AT-23B, later redesignated TB-26C. It never saw combat. United Air Lines purchased it surplus in 1946. It was resold to Allied Aircraft Company in 1948. The aircraft was entered in the 1949 Bendix Air Race, but failed to finish on time (shown in photo). The Tennessee Gas Corporation (Tenneco) purchased it in 1951 as an executive transport. It later became N550T, but reverted to N5546N in 1957. It was sold again in 1959 and later registered in Mexico as XB-LOX. The aircraft was returned to US in 1965. The Confederate Air Force bought the plane in 1967 and eventually restored it to flying condition. It was painted in the markings of the 387th Bombardment Group, and named "Carolyn". After a lengthy restoration, the aircraft took to the air in 1984 as N5546N. Sadly, the "Carolyn" was destroyed 28 Sept 1995 when it crashed returning to the CAF HQ at Midland, Texas, from a pilot qualification flight. All five crewmembers aboard perished.

Bell P-63C-5-BE Kingcobra 44-4321 NX69797 race # 4 c 1947, flown by Steve Wittman (of Oshkosh fame) in the 1947 Tinnerman race. Ditched by another pilot in a Wisconsin lake (?) and reportedly it's still there.
