    Private 10562 Henry Green, son of Wesley and Eleanor Louisa Green of 43, Green Street, Darwen, Lancashire. www.cwgc.org He was born circa 1897 in Darwen, Lancashire. The Green family were living at 43 Green Street, Darwen in 1901. Wesley was a Bootmaker, Employer, working from home. He and his wife had 4 children and his widowed mother living with them. They were still resident at this address a decade later. Henry was at school. Wesley and Eleanor had been married for 23yrs and had lost one of their six children. The property consisted of 5 main rooms and Mrs Green senior was still living with them.

    On this day XV Corps, consisting of the 12th and 41st Divisions attacked Rainbow and Bayonet trenches, situated beyond the Flers-Thilloy Road as far as Gird Lines. This would be a distance of roughly 300 yards. Just before zero hour the enemy laid a machine gun barrage in front of the 12th Division's frontline and shelled the whole area around the ruins of Guedecourt. The 36th and 37th Brigades suffered terribly during their advance due to machine gun fire and those that got into Rainbow and Bayonet Trench were overwhelmed or captured.
