Taken from www.rosscarbery.ie/rosscarbery-notes-june-18th-2015/ it would appear that Tom Barry's father ran The Arcade for a while. "Tom Barry likewise came from a long established farming family in Rosscarbery. His father joined the RIC, was stationed in North Cork where he married Margaret O’Donovan from Liscarroll. The family moved to Killorglin Co Kerry where Tom was born on 1st July 1897. His father resigned from the RIC and returned to Rosscarbery to run “The Arcade” as a retail business for about 8 years, they subsequently moved to Bandon and then emigrated to Liverpool. Tom joined the British Army in June 1915 and served in Mesopotamia and Egypt. He returned to Bandon after the War and worked for better treatment of the many ex-servicemen in the area who were now forgotten by the authorities. He became disillusioned by the British authorities and joined the IRA. With his military training and active service he put his experiences to good use and became the most successful and noted Flying Column leader of the War of Independence."

The building is from 1840 per the NIAH

The Allsops Ale sign at left says "Sold by Jeremiah Collins, the Arcade". Jeremiah was 61 in the 1911 census.

The NIAH says the Barrys were here from 1907-1914, (and the census agrees) so this must be before 1908.

I think this looks east across the inner part of the estuary at Rosscarbery, with the cottages at East Rock bottom left and Burgatia Hill opposite

I had the pleasure of going to secondary school in Rosscarbery. Once a month we got to go canoeing on the lagoon. I used to love going for walks to The Warren or down the other side to the pier. The photo must have been taken from up in Ardagh West up by the Ardagh Boys N.S.

L_CAB_07936 nearby shows the Mercy convent at Rosscarbery, which the DIA puts at 1898

Marked on the 25" map as "Summerhill House", that building across the water mid left has a closer view - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000332619

L_CAB_07941 in the other direction is Kilcullen, less likely to be close in date, but a newspaper poster mentions the Land Act. If after 1898, likely 1903 or 1906.
