Crown Princess Rumania (LOC)

Hmm, there's a number of potential matches. This one looks the most likely: Marie of Romania (Marie Alexandra Victoria, previously Princess Marie of Edinburgh; 29 October 1875–18 July 1938) was Queen consort of Romania from 1914 to 1927, as the wife of Ferdinand I of Romania. Also a possibility, her daughter, who would be about 15 in the time span we're currently lookking at: Maria of Yugoslavia (6 January 1900 – 22 June 1961) was the Queen consort of King Alexander I of Yugoslavia. She was originally a princess of Romania.

Thank you so much trialsanderrors for taking the time to examine the two possibilities. My inclination is to go with the mother, given how Bain has captioned other photographs of her. Do you know anything about the uniform she is wearing? We may keep the conversation going a little longer to see if we can get any more information before making the change to the record.

I'm not a uniform expert, but I noticed there is this related image in the Bain Collection (which apparently hasn't been posted to Flickr yet), which might offer additional clues:

Thanks so much trialsanderrors for doing the research on the uniform. I'm not an expert either, but it looks as though the cap that the prince is wearing matches that of the crown princess, so we could definitely say that it is a Romanian uniform. I think that we'll go ahead and make the change to the record.

I agree. I'm fairly sure the uniforms are from the same country. In addition, the pictures look like they come from the same photosession. There is also a date stamp on the original picture which I'm reading as 9/15/14—which means the young princess could at the most be 14 years old. If the Bain practice of using archive photos of individuals for current events hold here too she's less than that, and the girl in the bottom photo is likely the young princess with her brother Carol II. Which leaves us with the mother as the person depicted in the original photo.

Operated by Prince Bibescu of Romania....looks like its at Heston Aerodrome, England (from the gas-holder in distance). It crashed in India in 1931 and Bibescu replaced it with a Ju-52 also registered CV-FAI
