The roof of one of the passenger carriages. The circular holes were almost certainly where the (transportable) carriage lights were inserted.

Never seen this picture. This part of the bridge was known as "The High Girders" . The track changed from running along the top of the girder "boxes" to inside as seen by the carraige within. Thanks for posting this.

This picture is taken within the "HIgh Girders" the track as you can see runs within the girders. The track was positioned above the approach girders leading to this point.

I'm sorry, but isn't the date incorrect? If this photo truly was taken before the collapse, then it couldn't have been taken at any time after December 28, 1879.
