I think that this should be "Marteg" (not Manteg). This is now the A470 between Rhayader and Llangurig - the track coming in from the right is to Pant y Dwr I think.

Hi Steve - thanks for your comment. We think that this picture is from between 1910-1920 (although we're not sure when exactly). Do you recognise the types of bike?

Alas, no, but contact The Classic Motorcycle or Classic Bike Guide, they will identify the leader, at least. www.classicmotorcycle.co.uk/ www.classicbikeguide.com/ They look newer than 1920, though, definite feel of the thirties. A great series of shots, by the way.

I really like these old motorcycles. And that's a great scenic shot of the curving roads.

My grandfather John Nathanial Walters was a noted cyclist from Wales. His contemporaries being Bert Andrews and Charlie Baker, British champions. He actually was the first to import Harley Davidson's into Saskatoon, Saskatchewan era 1912. These bikes resemble many of our family photos with the exception that many of ours have sidecars. I love it, gives me a feel of what my grandfather did whilst still in Wales. I have the Walters Family History book published in hard bound format. You just have to love these old images! Such a piece of history.
