Is that the photographers name on one of the logs in the right foreground?

This is a photograph of part of the village of Sandsend, which lies a few miles North of Whitby. The photograph is taken at the bottom of a very steep hill known as Lythe Bank as the village of Lythe stands at the top of it. Many of the old cottages shown in this photograph are still standing, and part of the stone embankment on the right hand side of the road remains.

I have looked through other photos on Flickr to try and find the modern day equivalent view, and this is the nearest I have found www.flickr.com/photos/blackwyld/1537863275/ Note the remains of the stone embankment on the right of the frame. The line of cottages have been modernised over the years but are still the same. And you can still see the gable end of the building on the left with the solitary window. You can also view this site using Geoogle Earth's street level facility.

A view across the River Esk in Whitby, with St Mary's Parish Church on top of the hill in the distance.
